• Tiffany Haddish was among the celebrity guests invited to this year’s MTV Music Video Awards.
  • But some fans questioned her behavior after she photobombed Shakira and shouted her name.
  • Haddish laughed off the backlash and thanked her haters for making her “more famous.”

Tiffany Haddish seems to be a big fan of Shakira.

At the MTV Music Awards, held in New Jersey earlier this week, the comedian was spotted photobombing the Colombian singer, while a viral clip from the event also showed Haddish, 43, shouting the name Shakira as she followed her into a crowded room.

Haddish’s behavior as a fan apparently offended many viewers. On X, formerly known as Twitter, commenters shared various reactions to Haddish’s interactions with Shakira.

Some were light-hearted, with users sharing playful memes about Haddish do the most to attract the attention of the “Waka Waka” singer and Shakira runs away from the actor after hearing her scream his name.

Some, however, criticized Haddish for what they saw as influence-hunting behaviorwhile others said that the interaction could be seen like harassment.

Haddish spoke to X on Saturday to dismiss the criticism

Responding to a tweet from Pop Crave regarding her antics at the awards ceremony, the comedian wrote that she found the comment about her interesting and reflected her popularity.

“I appreciate all your opinions…Thank you Shana Tova,” Haddish wrote.

Haddish reiterated her position in another post on SATURDAY.

“When people make videos about me or talk about me, good or bad. I just think Thank you everyone for making me more famous and more relevant,” she wrote. “I see it drives the enemy crazy because they really want to be where I am, that will never happen.”

She once again received a mixed response from social media users.

“Not all publicity is good publicity,” one user responded.

“We love you @TiffanyHaddish but we worry when things don’t go our way,” wrote another. “You were definitely horny. I still love you, sis, but sometimes less is more.”

Haddish also addressed the viral interaction during an appearance on Hot 97’s Ebro In the Morning.

“I was moving aggressively,” she told hosts Ebro Darden, Peter Rosenberg and Laura Stylez, adding that she just wanted to have a “quick conversation” with the star about their collaboration on music.

Haddish finished by saying she would be more than willing to be a background dancer in one of Shakira’s music videos: “I’m telling you right now Shakira, my hips don’t lie.”

Representatives for Tiffany Haddish did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Insider, which was made outside of normal business hours.
