How to get Amulet of the Pious in Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur's Gate 3 Storm Shore Tabernacle Vicar Humbletoes

To get the Amulet of the Pious in Baldur’s Gate 3 you must go to the Stormshore Tabernacle in Act 3 and find your way into the basement. You can find the Tabernacle in the city, just off the path to the Basilisk Gate on the east side of the map. Inside you’ll find Vicar Humbletoes, who acts as a vendor and sells Reviving Hands and The Mantle of Holy Warrior, among other items.

To make this process as easy as possible, it’s best to have one character with the Sleight of Hand skill and the other with the Remove Curse spell (or scroll). Astarion as a rogue and Shadowheart as a cleric are good options for this. You’ll need either a Fog or Darkness spell or a character with the relevant scroll/arrow.

What you are really looking for inside the tabernacle is going to be an ornate wooden hatch. You can find it hidden in a corner to the left of the main entrance. Unfortunately, it’s in full view of Vicar Humbletoes and even if you separate your party to try and talk him down while someone else picks the hatchlock, he catches you in the act. will This is where you use fog or darkness. Cast it on the area around the hatch. Now you can bend over and pick the lock and drop in without stopping.

In the Tabernacle basement

Once in the basement you’ll want to separate your party so that only the Sleight of Hand character is separated. There are many traps and triggers that you will want to disarm. As long as your Perception checks succeed, it’s possible for a single party member to move around or jump, but it’s easy to disarm them.

You’ll find an offering chest down the short hallway and back. It is not trapped or closed, but anyone who takes the pious amulet from the chest will suffer the state of divinity. This condition causes the party member to be cursed by the angry gods. When the target is knocked unconscious, they die instantly. Additionally, when they die, a terrifying emissary of an angry deity is ejected from the entity’s corpse.

Baldur's Gate 3 dethroned by divinity and celestial combat

You can achieve this (sort of) by using the Remove Curse spell. This would remove the curse but still activate the ‘terrible emissary of the angry god’. This instantly spawned a level 10 Celestial with high HP and resistance to slashing, piercing, bludgeoning, and radiant damage. However, it’s a four against one fight, and shouldn’t be too much of a problem if your party is high enough. Necrotic damage works well here, along with Flame Strike and Call Lightning spells if you have them.

Once defeated, return to the ladder. Vicar Humbletoes will automatically punish you for stealing, but lets you leave and the Pious Amulet should still be in your inventory. Additionally, he goes back to being willing to trade and talk afterward, so it doesn’t seem like he’s in any danger of losing him as a vendor.
